West Prussia was a province of Prussia and the German Empire that existed from 1773 to 1829 and from 1878 to 1922, when it was divided into smaller German territories and Polish territory. Marienwerder and Danzig (the present-day cities of Kwidzyn and Gdansk, Poland) served as the capitals of West Prussia, which linked the former German enclave of East Prussia to Brandenburg.
