West Hollywood is a city in southern California, bordering Beverly Hills and Los Angeles. West Hollywood was incorporated in 1984, and it became a center of dining and nightlife due to its location along the Sunset Strip. The neighborhood first experienced immigration during the 1960s when hippies moved into the area, and Russian Jews arrived in the area during the 1980s. Soon, West Hollywood became a prominent gay village, with a third of its population of 36,698 people (2016) being gay.
