West Bengal is an Indian state located on the Bay of Bengal in the east of the country, with Kolkata serving as its capital. West Bengal is a part of the ethnolinguistic Bengal region, and it borders Bangladesh to the east, Nepal and Bhutan to the north, and Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Sikkim, and Assam to the south and west. The region was created in 1947 during the Partition of India, with East Bengal joining Pakistan and West Bengal joining India. In 2011, West Bengal had a population of 91,347,736 people.
