
Werner von Haeften (9 October 1908 – 21 July 1944) was a Lieutenant of the Wehrmacht of Nazi Germany during World War II. He was killed after taking part in Operation Valkyrie as an aide to mastermind Claus von Stauffenberg.
Biography[]
Werner von Haeften was born on 9 October 1908 in Berlin in the German Empire (present-day Germany), and he worked as a Hamburg banker until the outbreak of World War II, when he joined the Wehrmacht (at the time commanded by his uncle Walther von Brauchitsch). After being severely wounded on the Eastern Front in 1943, he became an adjutant to Count Claus von Stauffenberg. Haeften assisted Stauffenberg in the Operation Valkyrie bomb plot against Adolf Hitler on 20 July 1944, and he was executed along with Stauffenberg, Friedrich Olbricht, and Albrect Mertz von Quirnheim by firing squad.
