Wells A. Hutchins

Wells Andrews Hutchins (8 October 1818 – 25 January 1895) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-OH 11) from 4 March 1863 to 3 March 1865, succeeding Valentine B. Horton and preceding Hezekiah S. Bundy.

Biography[]

Wells Andrews Hutchins was born in Hartford, Ohio in 1818, the cousin of John Hutchins. He became a lawyer in Warren in 1841, and he moved to Portsmouth in 1842 and served in the State House from 1852 to 1853. He served as city solicitor from 1857 to 1861, as Provost Marshal of Ohio in 1862, and in the US House of Representatives from 1863 to 1865. Despite being a Democrat, he supported the abolition of slavery in 1865. He died in 1895.
