Welfare is the provision of well-being and social support for people who are unable to provide for their own basic needs, funded by taxes and a few charities. Universal healthcare and unemployment insurance are two government-provided welfare systems, and the welfare system seeks to eradicate poverty through assisting citizens with being able to take care of themselves using minimal resources. In many nations, conservatives are opposed to welfare, claiming that the poor are simply poor because they are lazy; most people to the left of centrist politics support the poor, arguing for welfare due to human rights.
