Wei Cheng

Wei Cheng (1955-2013) was a Chinese Triad boss who imported his criminal organization from Yangshan, China to Los Angeles, United States in 2013, founding the Los Angeles Triads. He was murdered by Franklin Clinton in 2013.

Biography[]

Wei Cheng was born in Yangshan, Guangdong, China in 1955, and he became a member of the local Triads, rising to the head of a massive criminal organization. He fathered Tao Cheng and Georgina Cheng, and he groomed Tao to take over his organization when it came time for him to retire or pass away.

In 2013, Wei Cheng made plans to move his Triad from Yangshan to the United States to infiltrate the North American drug market, and he sent his son and his translator Cui Huo to Blaine County, California to build connections with gun runners, meth dealers, and other local criminal elements. His son initially expressed an interest in allying with Trevor Philips, but Philips proved to be unstable and irrational, and, after he assaulted Tao Cheng, Tao and his translator allied with the O'Neil Brothers and declared war on Philips.

Wei Cheng later tracked Philips down to Bismarck, North Dakota, but his men were only able to capture Michael De Santa, whom they mistook for Philips' lover. Wei Cheng had De Santa held hostage at a meat-packing plant in Los Angeles, where he hoped to lure Philips into an ambush, but Franklin Clinton instead shot his way through the guards and rescued De Santa.

Later that year, when De Santa, Philips, and Clinton decided to tie up loose ends by killing off their rivals, Clinton tracked Wei Cheng down to a Pacific Palisades beach club. He intercepted their convoy as it drove up the Great Ocean Highway and raked Wei Cheng's car with gunfire, heavily wounding Tao Cheng and killing Wei Cheng. Tao Cheng - believed dead - would resurface six years later as a casino owner, and he took over the leadership of the Los Angeles Triads, who successfully became a major criminal force in the city.
