Waylon "Grizz" Morrow (1972 - 2018) was a low-ranking soldier and lookout for the Saviors, a ruthless post apocalyptic organization that emerged in Virginia during the global zombie apocalypse.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Waylon Morrow, known as “Grizz” due to his rough exterior and no-nonsense attitude, was born in 1972 in Macon, Georgia. His early life was marked by hardship—he grew up in a trailer park with an absentee father and a mother who struggled with substance abuse. By the time he was a teenager, he was already running with the wrong crowd, getting into fights, stealing, and experimenting with drugs. Meth, oxy, booze—it didn’t matter. He spent most of his twenties in and out of jail for petty crimes and aggravated assaults.
Despite his reckless lifestyle, Waylon was known to have a strong survival instinct. He worked odd jobs, mostly in construction and trucking, though he never held a position for long. His criminal record and volatile nature made stability impossible. By his late thirties, he was a drifter, making money however he could—sometimes through legal work, other times through intimidation and violence.
Outbreak[]
When society collapsed, Waylon saw it as an opportunity rather than a tragedy. He thrived in the chaos, using his ruthless nature to take what he wanted. He bounced between small groups of survivors, often betraying or abandoning them when it suited him. Eventually, he found himself under the command of Negan Smith and the Saviors. Waylon fit in perfectly with the group—he was tough, mean, and had no problem enforcing Negan’s law.
As a Savior, he worked primarily as a scout and a lookout, stationed at various outposts. His sharp eyes and steady hands made him useful in spotting enemy movements. Unlike some of the Saviors who simply followed Negan out of fear, Waylon genuinely enjoyed the power that came with the position. He relished in making others suffer and had a cruel sense of humor, often laughing at the misery of those under Savior control.
Post Apocalypse[]
Waylon was present during some of the Saviors' most brutal moments. He was among those who witnessed the brutal execution of Glenn Rhee and Abraham Ford. He was one of the men laughing as a bloodied Rick Grimes was forced to beg for his life and his son’s in front of Negan. To him, it was all a game—a show of dominance, something he had seen and done countless times before in his pre-apocalypse life.
When the war between the Saviors and Rick's militia escalated, Waylon was stationed as a lookout at one of the rooftop outposts. He was tasked with spotting incoming threats and relaying information back to Negan’s main forces. However, Dwight, now secretly working against Negan, revealed Waylon’s location to Rick’s group due to Waylon being close to Alexandria and a threat.
Demise[]
Rick Grimes found Waylon first as he was watching the routes. Before he could react, Rick stabbed him in the stomach. Bleeding out, Waylon still had the strength to sneer through the pain. Instead of pleading, he taunted Rick, bringing up the night he had seen him begging for his son’s life. He promised that Rick would break again, that Carl was going to die just like Glenn had and that Rick will become the Saviors pet.
Rick, unmoved, ignored his words and instead cut the rope holding a restrained walker nearby. As Waylon clutched his wound, unable to move, the undead fell upon him. He screamed in agony as the walker tore into his flesh, shrieking and pleading for his life. By the time another Savior arrived to investigate the silence, Waylon had already turned, his lifeless eyes staring up at the sky as his reanimated corpse twitched in the dirt, unable to get up. The Savior put him down without a second thought and threw the corpse down in the overgrowth.
