Washington Territory

The Washington Territory was an organized incorporated territory of the United States that existed from 2 March 1853 to 11 November 1889. The territory was created out of parts of the Oregon Territory, with Olympia serving as the territory's capital. Isaac Stevens was the first Governor of the Washington Territory, putting down the hostile Yakima tribe from 1855 to 1858 and pacifying the territory. In 1863, the Idaho Territory split off from the Washington Territory, and Washington was granted statehood on 11 November 1889.
