Washington is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States, with its capital at Olympia. The state was a part of the disputed Oregon territory until 1846, when the United Kingdom agreed to cede the region to the USA, resolving the border dispute. The largest city, Seattle, was founded in 1869, and the state was admitted to the union on 11 November 1889 as the 42nd state. In 2015, Washington had a population of 7,170,351 people.
