Walter L

Walter L. Hendrix (20 December 1924-15 February 2000) was a US Army Technical Sergeant who served with Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, US 506th Infantry Regiment during World War II.

Biography[]

Walter was born December 20, 1924, in Georgia. Hendrix was drafted into the Army and enlisted on March 23, 1943. Volunteering for the paratroopers, he joined Easy Company, 506th PIR, at Fort Bragg in early 1943. He was placed in 3rd platoon as a machine gunner.

On D-Day, Walter jumped into Normandy and was one of the initial 14 men to take part on the Brecourt Manor assault later that morning. He manned one of the 30 caliber machine guns with John Plesha, and was awarded the Bronze Star medal for his actions.
