King Wallia

Wallia (370-419) was King of the Visigoths from 8 September 415 to 419, succeeding Sigeric and preceding Theodoric I.

Biography[]

Wallia was born in 370, and he was elected to the Visigothic throne in 415 after the murders of Athaulf and Sigeric that same year. He made peace with the Western Roman emperor Honorius and returned his sister Galla Placidia to him, and he was then given the region of Aquitaine in 417 and allowed to settle his people there as foederati. He established his court at Tolosa, and, in 418, he invaded Hispania to aid the Romans against the Vandals and the Alans, the later of whom were so badly depleted that they merged with the Vandals. On his death in 419, he was succeeded by Alaric's son Theodoric I.
