She married Wali Tifilwit of Hermoupolis in 870, and she converted to Sunni Islam from Orthodox Christianity shortly after. After her husband's death in 882, Emir Salim Iqritishi invited her to his court, and she agreed after he gave her a gift of hold. He then made her his apprentice in the Hermetic Cult, and she took care of his laboratory. On 20 February 883, they started a love affair in her bedchamber, and, on 6 July 883, they formally married. Salim died during sex in 886, but his son Yunis ibn Salim married his stepmother Thekla in 889 and impregnated her. On 4 May 891, she gave birth to their first child (at age 40), Salim ibn Yunus.
