Wali Taffounnout of Euboea

Wali Taffounnout of Euboea (7 March 835-3 June 893) was the Spymaster of the Emirate of Crete from 867 under Emir Salim Iqritishi. He belonged to a Sunni Muslim Berber family, and, after serving as Mayor of Lassithi on Crete, he was made the client ruler of Euboea by Salim in late 867. On 20 July 869, Emira Theochariste of the Iqritishi Emirate revealed to her husband that Taffounnout had tried to seduce Emira Zenobia of the Iqritishi Emirate, damaging relations between the two men. He died after a period of illness in 893 at the age of 58, leaving behind a half-Celtic bastard daughter, Zubayda.
