Waddy Thompson Jr.

Waddy Thompson Jr. (8 January 1798-23 November 1868) was a member of the US House of Representatives (W-SC 6) from 10 September 1835 to 3 March 1841, succeeding Warren R. Davis and preceding William Butler Jr.. Born in Easley and raised in Greenville, he practiced law in Edgefield before serving in the state house from 1826 to 1829, as a judge, in Congress, as minister to Mexico from 1842 to 1844 (befriending Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna and opposing the Mexican-American War), and as a plantation manager in Edgefield and in Madison, Florida. He remained a Unionist during the American Civil War, but he was financially ruined and died in Tallahassee in 1868.
