Volcae

The Volcae were a Gallic tribal confederation which inhabited Macedonia during the 3rd century BC. They were originally settled east of the Rhine, and they spread to southern Gaul, Moravia, the Ebro Valley of the Iberian Peninsula, and Galatia in Anatolia. In 279 BC, they took part in the Gaulish invasion of the Balkans, and a branch of the Volcae became the Galatians of Asia Minor. The Volcae Arecomici between the Garonne and Cevennes Rivers in France submitted to Roman rule in 121 BC, while the Tectosages' capital of Tolosa was sacked in 106 BC and conquered by Julius Caesar in 52 BC during the Gallic Wars.
