
Vittorio Ambrosio (28 July 1879-19 November 1958) was a general of Fascist Italy who led the Italian 2nd Army during World War II.
Biography[]
Vittorio Ambrosio was born on 28 July 1879 in Turin, Italy, and he joined the Military School of Modena in 1896 before serving in the Italo-Turkish War in 1911 and serving as a divisional chief-of-staff in World War I. In 1939, Ambrosio was given command of the Italian 2nd Army on the border with Yugoslavia and led them in the April War of 1941, occupying the coast of Dalmatia. In September 1943, he helped in negotiating an armistice with the Allied Powers as they invaded Italy, but the negotiations' length allowed for Nazi Germany to occupy much of the peninsula. Ambrosio died on 19 November 1958.
