Vito Perillo (1924-) was Mayor of Tinton Falls, New Jersey from 2018, succeeding Gerald Turning.
Biography[]
Vito Perillo was born in The Bronx, New York City, New York in 1924 to Italian immigrant parents, and he was drafted into the US Navy during World War II and served as a ship technician in the South Pacific. After the war and college, he worked for the Defense Department for 38 years, retiring in 1980. He settled in Tinton Falls, New Jersey in 1960, and, in 2017, he decided to run for Mayor because of his dissatisfaction with the high property taxes in his town. The 93-year-old Perillo defeated two-term incumbent Gerald Turning in an upset election, and he was re-elected in November 2021 at the age of 97.
