Vitiges (500-540) was King of the Ostrogoths from 536 to 540, succeeding Theodahad and preceding Ildibad.
Biography[]
Vitiges was the husband of Amalasuntha's only surviving child, Matasuntha. He succeeded to the throne of the Ostrogoths in the early stages of the Gothic War, having Theodahad murdered after he failed to send any assistance to Naples during the Byzantine siege. Justinian's general Belisarius captured Vitiges and Matasuntha and took them to Constantinople, where Vitiges died without children.
