Virginia War Museum

The Virginia War Museum is a war museum located in Newport News, Virginia. The museum was founded in 1923 as an American Legion museum, and it was made a memorial to the Virginians who served in World War II in 1948. During the 1950s, the city assumed administrative controls over the museum and renamed it to the Virginia War Museum in 1996. The museum's collection primarily focuses on World War I and World War II, as its founders were primarily Great War veterans and World War II veterans passing through the Hampton Roads Port of Embarkation left things with the museum they did not wish to bring home.
