Virgil Cammarota (1961-1993) was an Italian-American mobster who was affiliated with the Detroit Partnership Mafia organization.
Biography[]
Virgil Cammarota was born in Detroit, Michigan, United States in 1961 to a family of Italian descent. He became involved with organized crime as a young man, joining the Detroit Partnership and becoming one of its most effective and ruthless killers, as well as the underboss of Blue Lou Boyle. In 1993, he aided consigliere Vincenzo Coccotti in his violent interrogation of Clifford Worley, whose son Clarence Worley and daughter-in-law Alabama Whitman had fled to Los Angeles with $500,000 worth of the Mafia's cocaine. After discovering that the newlyweds had fled to California, Coccotti sent Cammarota with Franco Grande, Luca Patane, Lenny Francese, and Marvin De Simone to track down the criminal duo and recover the drugs.
They first headed to the home of Dick Ritchie, whose telephone number was written down by Clifford in order to contact his son. There, Virgil asked Dick's stoned roommate Floyd where the couple was staying, and Floyd pointed him to the Safari Motel. Cammarota broke into the motel room and waited for Alabama to return home, sitting on a chair with a shotgun on his lap. Alabama was calm upon seeing him, pretending to be someone else, but Virgil feigned friendliness towards her before brutally beating her and interrogating her.
He ultimately found the cocaine under the motel room bed, but Alabama fought back against him by using a corkscrew to stab him in the foot, splashing bathroom soap into his eyes, and ultimately using his shotgun to shoot him dead. Traumatized by her torture, Alabama repeatedly bashed Cammarota's corpse with the butt of his shotgun.
