Vinci Crime Family

The Vinci crime family was an Italian-American Mafia crime family in New York City during the early-to-mid 20th century. Founded as a Black Hand extortion gang by Don Frank Vinci and his consigliere Leo Galante in 1908, the family established a foothold in the Italian immigrant community and developped its strength thanks to its control of the Port of New York and bootlegging during Prohibition in the 1920s. After Prohibition ended in 1931, the Vinci family fought for control over illegal operations with the Moretti crime family led by Tomaso Moretti, with the conflict ending in 1933 after Moretti's car bomb murder and his caporegime Carlo Falcone succeeding him. Over time, the family weakened as a result of Vinci's hands-off approach, but after the disfunction of the competing Moretti and Clemente families in 1951, the Vinci family once again gained its spot as the most powerful criminal organization in New York City.
