Vincent Louis "the Chin" Gigante (28 March 1928–19 December 2005) was the boss of the Genovese crime family from 1981 to 2005, succeeding Philip Lombardo and preceding Liborio Bellomo. The longtime true leader of the family, Gigante convinced authorities he was not a mobster by feigning insanity through actions such as walking around in his bathrobe and behaving extravagantly in public, also positioning Anthony Salerno as the family's front boss to throw off law enforcement. Though his scheme worked for several decades, Gigante was ultimately arrested in 1993 and incarcerated, dying of natural causes in federal prison in 2005.
