Vin Makazian

Vin Makazian (1951-1999) was a corrupt Newark, New Jersey police detective who fed information to DiMeo crime family capo Tony Soprano.

Biography[]

Vin Makazian was born in Newark, New Jersey on April 27, 1951 to a family of Armenian descent, and he became a police detective. Makazian became an associate of DiMeo crime family capo Tony Soprano, who hired him to feed him information and to work as an investigator; in 1998, Makazian was hired to spy on Dr. Jennifer Melfi, as Soprano wanted to know about her background. Makazian was over-enthusiastic in this role, pulling her car over and beating up her boyfriend before later proceeding to take nude pictures of her from outside her home. Later, Makazian informed Soprano that Salvatore Bonpensiero was working as an FBI informant, but Soprano was suspicious of Makazian, who owed Bonpensiero $30,000 in gambling debts, and who may have mistaken Jimmy Altieri for Bonpensiero. Makazian and DiMeo capo Raymond Curto were both arrested in a police raid on an illegal brothel where Makazian had romance with the madam, and Makazian, prone to depression, jumped off the Donald Goodkind Bridge in New Brunswick, New Jersey after being released from jail.
