Captain Viktor Ivanovich Reznov (born 20 April 1913) was a Soviet soldier who served alongside Private Dimitri Petrenko at the rank of Sergeant throughout World War II and until his promotion to Captain at the conclusion of the Battle of Berlin. He was betrayed by General Nikita Dragovich who attempted to test Nova 6 on him, though was inadvertently freed by the British Commandos and shortly thereafter recaptured by Dragovich; he was then sent to labor in the Vorkutlag for the next eighteen years.

After Alex Mason was placed in Vorkuta for experimentation, Reznov started reversing Mason's brainwashing to instead target Dragovich, his lieutenant Lev Kravchenko, and scientist Friedrich Steiner. Reznov and Mason then broke out, though Reznov disappeared after Mason's escape, only to send him letters as "John Trent" from 1963 to 1968.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Viktor Reznov was born Saint Petersburg in the Russian Empire. His father Ivan Reznov worked as a musician, and was a devout Orthodox Christian. His father would would often play a variety of patriotic Russian music when he was growing up. Reznov would then find work as a butcher growing up.

Red Army service[]

When the Axis powers invaded the USSR during Operation Barbarossa, Reznov was conscripted into the Soviet Red Army. During training, he was found to be very accurate, hitting the targets quickly and with precision, which lead to him being selected for sniper training. He then served as a sniper. While serving in the Red Army, he heard reports that his father was brutally murdered by German troops. This enraged him, and motivated him to avenge his father and to be brutal against German soldiers.

Stalingrad[]

During the battle of Stalingrad, Reznov fought against a German sniper. He got shot in the finger during the gun fight, which lead to him losing his finger, and no longer being an effective sniper. He then picked up a PPSh submachine gun, which did not require the use of his lost finger, and continued fighting. He would eventually meet Dimitri Petrenko, and gave him his old Mosin Nagant sniper rifle, teaching him how to snipe. He helped him kill the sniper who shot off his finger, and they also killed a high ranking German officer too.

He felt betrayed by Dragovich and Kravchenko, due to the fact that they would often waste their men on assaults in battle, without any support at all. This lead to him developing a grudge against them.

Seelow Heights[]

A few later, Reznov would fight in the Battle of Seelow Heights. Pvt. Kiril Chernov was a new soldier assigned to his squad. Chernov was unlike the rest of the soldiers, finding their brutality against the Germans to be completely unnecessary and even uncivilized. He served together with Reznov and Petrenko, fighting against German soldiers. Reznov was distasteful of Chernov's pacifism. He did not like how he was merciful towards surrending German soldiers. He often compared him to Petrenko, asking him to be as brave as he is, and as vengeful as the rest of the Red Army. They fought against the German forces, eventually reaching Berlin.

Aftermath:[]

Not much is known about Reznov's fate. Alex Mason believed he was the Central Intelligence Agency "Defector" and was with him at "Rebirth Island" and he believed Reznov killed Friedrich Steiner, however, it was actually Mason himself under the counter brainwashing aka the "Numbers" that Reznov put in Mason's head to kill Steiner, Nikita Dragovich, and Lev Kravchenko for their betrayal and war crimes. Reznov was also believed to have shown up to save Mason, Frank Woods, and Tian Zhao in Afghanistan during the Soviet-Afghan War after the Battle of Khost in 1986, however, Woods disputes this. Despite all of this, Resnov's body was never found, leaving a possibility that he was either dead, or secretly in hiding or captivity.
