Vicelin (died 874) was a Frankish merchant captain and "Warden of War" in the Order of the Ancients.
Biography[]
Vicelin was born in Francia, and he was a career sailor, the kind of man pledged to king and country. The offer of the Order of the Ancients came at a soiree where he was given the kind of stability that the warring Francian could not challenge: gold, power, and all the ships he so desired.
Vicelin became "the Compass", the head of the Order in London, commanding the Order from a distance. In 874 AD, however, his lieutenants Frideswid ("the Leech") and Avgos Spearhand ("the Arrow") were assassinated by the Hidden Ones ally Eivor, leading to Vicelin leading a flotilla into London's harbor and assaulting the city. His men burned down much of the riverside, but Eivor and his ally, Reeve Stowe, used two springalds to destroy several of Vicelin's ship ballistae and kill several of his men. Eivor then hopped across the ships of Vicelin's flotilla before challenging Vicelin on a floating platform in a one-on-one duel. Eivor set Vicelin on fire by breaking and igniting oil jars near him, and he also shot him with several arrows before charging him, hacking at him with an axe, and stabbing him dead with his hidden blade. In his last words, Vicelin said that Boudicca was right to burn down London, and he warned Eivor that the Order was a "churning tide".
