Vesta M. Roy

Vesta M. Roy (26 March 1925-9 February 2002) was the Republican Governor of New Hampshire from 29 December 1982 to 6 January 1983, succeeding Hugh Gallen and preceding John H. Sununu.

Biography[]

Vesta M. Coward was born in Dearborn, Michigan in 1925, and she crossed into Canada to serve in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1943 to 1945 during World War II. Afterwards, she became an insurance agent, and she served as a Rockingham County Commissioner in New Hampshire from 1974 to 1976, in the State Senate from 1978 to 1986, and as acting Governor from 1982 to 1983 following Governor Hugh Gallen's death. She died in New York in 2002.
