Venustiano Tiso (born 1976) was an Italian Democratic Party politician who served as Prime Minister of Italy from 11 May 2009, succeeding Crescenzia Bellante.
Biography[]
Venustiano Tiso was born in Macerata, Marche, Italy in 1976, and he was a leftist political activist before becoming a leader within the Democratic Party organization. Tiso was first elected to the Chamber of Deputies on 7 April 2008, and he placed second on the party list after Teodoro Cordi. On 11 May 2009, after Cordi was elected to the newly-empowered presidency, Tiso - as leader of the PD in the Chamber, and thus the leader of the largest party in the Chamber - assumed the virtually powerless position of Prime Minister.
