Flag of Vatican City

Vatican City is a country located within the city of Rome, Italy. The 110-acre enclave was formed on 11 February 1929 as a result of the Lateran Treaty between Fascist Italy and the Catholic Church, which granted the Holy See sovereignty over the Vatican district of Rome. The Vatican City was ruled as an absolute monarchy, with the College of Cardinals electing a Pope to head both the Vatican City and the Catholic Church. St. Peter's Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, and the Vatican museums are located in the Vatican City, as are various other religious buildings. In 2015, Vatican City had a population of 1,000 people.
