The Vascones were an Iberian tribe which lived on the western end of the Pyrenees in northern Hispania, with Iruna serving as its capital. During the Roman Republic, they lived in what is now Navarre in northern Spain, and some of the Vascones migrated to southern France in the region which is now known as Gascony. Those who did not displace during the barbarian invasions became the Basques, and the other Vascones fought alongside the Roman Empire during the barbarian invasions of Hispania until the 5th century AD.
