The Vangiones were a Germanic tribe which inhabited in the southern Black Forest of Germany, with Argentorate serving as their capital. In 58 BC, they allied with the Suebi during their invasion of Gaul, only to be defeated by the Roman general Julius Caesar at Belfort. The Vangiones were forced to resettle in northern Alsace, and many of them were used as auxiliaries by the Romans, who stationed them along Hadrian's Wall on England's border with Scotland.
