Valley Forge was a military camp in southeastern Pennsylvania where George Washington and the Continental Army encamped from 19 December 1777 to 18 June 1778 during the American Revolutionary War. During the harsh winter, 2,000 of the 12,000 Continental troops died of frostbite or other illnesses, with the Americans having inadequate winter clothing and provisions. However, these challenges were met by successes, as Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben trained the Continental Army with European tactics, teaching them how to use bayonets and how to fight like the Prussian Army, which he had served in.
