Valerio Marcano (died 1934) was an Italian-American mafioso who served as a soldato in the Carillo crime family of New Orleans.
Biography[]
Valerio Marcano was born in Sicily, Italy, the son of Biagio and Petrina Marcano, and emigrated to the United States at the age of three. His parents ran an Italian market in Bossier City, Louisiana, and, rather than inherit the business, he joined the Carillo crime family and was "made" in 1914. However, he accumulated great gambling debts from his boss Giuseppe Carillo. His sons Lou, Sal, Lucio, and Tommy became involved with the Mafia during the 1920s, but his three oldest sons were imprisoned at Cordoba. In 1934, he was murdered by Don Giuseppe for failing to repay his debts, and Sal and his brothers exacted revenge by killing Carillo and his men at a French Quarter restaurant and seizing control of the family.
