Valdemar III of Denmark

Valdemar III of Denmark (1314-1364) was King of Denmark from 7 June 1326 to 23 February 1329, interrupting Christopher II of Denmark's reigns.

Biography[]

Valdemar was born in Denmark in 1314, the son of Duke Eric II of Schleswig. When his distant relative Christopher II of Denmark was deposed by the Danish magnates and German nobles in 1326, Valdemar was appointed the new King of Denmark, but Denmark was totally controlled by the nobles, and it was rife with rebellions. In 1329, he was dethroned by Christopher, and, in 1340, he had his sister marry King Valdemar IV of Denmark. He died in 1364.
