Val Vannella was a Chicago Outfit enforcer. In 1973, Vannella and Thomas Garavaglia attempted to rob the Tangiers Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, but Anthony Spilotro warned them against doing so, as he worked with the casino executive Frank Rosenthal; the two mobsters agreed to leave without making a big scene, having been warned.
