Vagit Alekperov (1 September 1950-) was an Azerbaijani and Russian oligarch who was president of the company LUKOIL.

Vagit Alekperov was born in Baku, Azerbaijan SSR, Soviet Union in 1950, the son of a Muslim father and an Orthodox Christian mother. He became an engineer during the 1970s and became a gas industry expert in Siberia during the 1980s, becoming deputy minister of the Oil and Gas Industry of the USSR in 1990. In 1991, he founded LUKOIL, one of the world's most powerful oil companies, and he amassed a net worth of $19.1 billion.
