Vadim Krasikov

Vadim Krasikov (1963-) was a Russian FSB colonel and assassin in the service of Vladimir Putin. On 23 August 2019, he assassinated Georgian-Chechen national Zelimkhan Khangoshvili in Berlin while wearing a wig and riding up to Khangoshvili on a bicycle as Khangoshvili headed to a local mosque through the Kleiner Tiergarten. Krasikov's hasty disposal of his disguise, bicycle, and gun into the River Spree alerted the Berlin Police, who arrested Krasikov. Krasikov was sentenced to life in prison for "state-ordered murder", and, by 2022, Putin made efforts to exchange Krasikov for foreign hostages. On 1 August 2024, he was released in a prisoner exchange.
