V-1

The Vergeltungswaffe-1 (V-1) was a pulsejet-powered cruise missile that was used by the German Luftwaffe from 1944 to 1945 during the closing stages of World War II. The V-1 started production in 1939, and V-1 installations were set up along the French and Dutch coasts during the war. On 13 June 1944, the first V-1 was launched at London, prompted by the D-Day landings in Normandy. At its peak, 100 V-1s were fired at England daily, and 9,521 had been fired until the last V-1 camps were overrun by Allied forces in October 1944. After this, 2,448 V-1s were launched at the Belgian port of Antwerp and other nearby areas, and it would not be until 29 March 1945 that the last V-1 launch site in the Low Countries was overrun.
