Usman Ghazi (?) was the leader of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan from 2012, succeeding Abu Usman Adil.
Biography[]
Usman Ghazi was born in Uzbekistan to a family of Sunni Muslims, and he was the deputy leader of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan with Abu Usman Adil. On 2 August 2012, the IMU Uzbek-language website Furqon announced that Ghazi would be the group's new leader after the IMU confirmed the death of Abu Usman Adil in a USAF airstrike in Miranshah in April. Under Usman Ghazi, the IMU continued its tradition of suicide bombings in Afghanistan, serving as bodyguards of the Taliban's leaders, and fighting against the government of Pakistan in the Waziristan War. In 2014, Usman Ghazi pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the self-proclaimed Caliph of the Islamic State group in the Middle East, and the IMU took part in the Islamic State's fighting against the other militant groups loyal to al-Qaeda. In 2014 his base was raided and he was killed in that year but his death was unknown and unconfirmed. Ghazi was killed.
