Urus Khan Nogai

Urus Khan Nogai (died 1590) was Bey of the Nogai Horde from 1578 to 1590, succeeding Tin Ahmad and preceding Ur Muhamed Khan. The brother of Tin Ahmed, he inherited a horde in a state of feudal anarchy. While the Nogais were vassals of Muscovy, they attacked border settlements and battled the Don Cossacks. In 1572, the Nogai mirzas were forced into subservience to the Tsar after the Astrakhan Cossacks attacked the Nogai capital of Saraichik. In 1581, the Nogais again invaded Russia, but Urus Khan moved the Nogai uluses away from the Russian borders. In 1585, he failed to obtain Ottoman support for a campaign against the Russians in Astrakhan. His 1586-1587 invasion of Russia was defeated, and he died in battle with the Small Horde in 1590.
