Ural is a geographic region of central Russia, marking the divide between Europe and Asia. The Urals were considered to be a gateway to Siberia at points in time, and Cherdyn is the center of the region. Yekaterinburg is currently the adminsitrative center of the Russian federal district, although there is no official capital.
