The United Tajik Opposition (UTO) was an alliance of Islamist, nationalist, and democratic forces in Tajikistan that fought against the government from 1993 to 1997 during the Tajik Civil War. Both Islamists and conservatives fought against Emomali Rahmon's government in the civil war, and from 2010 to 2012 the UTO launched a small-scale insurgency that resulted in many of its leaders being killed or captured. The end of the war in 1997 led to many former UTO fighters joining the military as some of its most experienced fighters.
