The United Klans of America was an Alabama-based Ku Klux Klan organization that existed from the 1960s to 1970s. It was founded in 1961 by Robert Shelton, and it reached a strength of up to 35,000 members by 1965. It became the largest KKK faction in the world, and it was also the most violent KKK organization at the time. Membership began to decline once the UKA was linked to criminal activity, and it dropped to 4,000 members during the early 1970s. By the 1980s, membership had dropped to 900, but it experienced a resurgence in the 1990s, having several Klaverns in 29 states.
