The United Kingdom of Israel was a kingdom in the Levant region which existed from 1050 to 930 BC. The Twelve Tribes of Israel, who lived under the rule of judges, decided to centralize under a king due to invasions by the Philistines and other peoples, and Saul was their first king. Saul, David, and Solomon ruled over the kingdom, but, when Rehoboam succeeded Solomon as king, Jeroboam revolted against the kingdom. This ultimately led to the division of the united kingdom into the Kingdom of Israel in the north and the Kingdom of Judah in the south.
