The United Development Party (PPP) is an Islamic democratic and Islamist political party in Indonesia, founded on 5 January 1973. The party was founded in 1973 as a merger of four Islamist parties, with Suharto pressuring the ten political parties of Indonesia to merge into larger parties representing similar views. The PPP stood for Islamism, seeing it as moral guidance and inspiration in the life of the nation. The party had progressive fiscal policies and conservative social policies, promoting a democracy ruled by sharia law. In 2017, the party held 39/560 DPR seats.
