History[]

After the 24 January 2014 peace treaty between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the government of the Philippines, the Filipino government promised to set up the Bangsamoro region on Mindanao by 2016 as an autonomous region for the Moros to live in. The MILF leader Murad Ebrahim played a major role in peace talks, and became a leader of the Moro people.

On 8 May 2015, Murad Ebrahim signed a petition of several Moros and registered the "United Bangsamoro Justice Party" as a new political party, ready to compete in the 2016 elections. The party was formed the day before the registration deadline for all parties competing in the 2016 elections, and was ready to compete for some of the 24 senate seats, 292 House of Representatives seats, 80 provincial governorships, 80 provincial vice governorships, and 756 provincial board memberships. They were founded as a right-wing political party which resembled Moro nationalism, jihadism, and Islamic democracy, and they were headquartered in Cotabato City. The party was formed to give the MILF a legitimate way to gain representation in the government, as exclusion from politics was a major problem for the Moros. The party did not win any seats in the election.
