The Unconditional Unionist Party was an American political party which was active from 1852 to 1866. Southerners who supported the Compromise of 1850 (mainly Whigs) adopted the Unionist label to attract pro-Compromise Democrats and defeat anti-Compromise Democrats. During the American Civil War, Southern Democrats who were loyal to the Union and elements of the old Whig Party and other factions opposed to secession. Following the war, it opposed voting rights for both former slaves and former Confederates, and it dissolve din 1866 due to the irrelevancy of their other views.
