Umbria

Umbria is one of the twenty regions of Italy, the only Italian region not to border the sea or another country. The capital of Umbria is Perugia, and the region has been inhabited for centuries, with the Gauls inhabiting Umbria until the Roman Republic forced them out. The Romans would fight against the Carthaginians at Lake Trasimene during the Second Punic War, making Trasimene an important historical site; the important Tiber River (Tevere) also runs through Umbria. The region was also the location of several battles during the wars between the Italian city-states during the Middle Ages and the Italian Renaissance, and the cities of Assisi, Orvieto, Citta di Castello, Todi, Gubbio, Spoleto, Norcia, Castiglione del Lago, Narni, and Amelia are located in the region.
