Ulaid

Ulaid, also known as Ulidia, was an Irish kingdom which existed from 450 to 1177. At its foundation, it included the entirety of Ulster in present-day Northern Ireland and Ireland, but Airgialla and Ailech conquered much of its lands during the 6th century. During the Viking invasions of Ireland, Ulaid and Ailech allied to destroy the Viking bases at Annagassan, Carlingford Lough, Lough Neagh, and Strangford Lough, but, at Craeb Telcha in 1003, the majority of Ulaid's nobility was slain in battle with Ailech, and Ulaid submitted to Brian Boru in 1005. In 1177, Ulaid was invaded by the Normans under John de Courcy, and it was conquered and transformed into the earldom of Ulster.
