Ujio (1833-24 September 1877) was a Japanese samurai and master swordsman of the Satsuma Domain who served under Saigo Takamori during the Satsuma Rebellion. He was a brave warrior and a skilled fighter who trained the captive American military advisor Nathan Algren in the fighting style of the samurai warrior, and he and Algren later helped to rescue Takamori from Okubo Toshimichi's trap in Tokyo. Ujio went on to fight in the final showdown with the Imperial Japanese Army at the Battle of Shiroyama, during which he was shot dead while charging into battle on his horse.
